Reading Matters

Beautiful Creatures by Kami Garcia & Margaret Stohl

This book is hard to put down. It drives you to read to see what happens to Lena and Ethan. Lena has moved schools to Gatlin, a place where her family has traditionally been ostracised. She forms a friendship with Ethan a boy who is experiencing strange dreams that he has told no-one about. Just like Ethan, Lena has worries. She is particularly worried about turning sixteen as her family traditions mean that future experiences can alter significantly from that birthday.  Can Lena and Ethan survive the historical machinations and traditions of the Gatlin community and their families? Who in the community knows the true stories about Lena’s family? The surprises abound throughout the story, and the connections across time and place are really interesting. If you are a Stephenie Meyer fan then I’m sure you will enjoy Beautiful Creatures.
